1940- Hollywood columnist Louella Parsons reported in her column : "Roy Acuff, young hill-billy brought here by Republic Pictures from Nashville, is suffering from appendicitis and will be operated on as soon as the picture is finished." The film, "Grand Ole Opry" was finished a short time later, but Roy had seen all of Hollywood that he cared to. He loaded the Smokey Mountain Boys into their touring car, and headed back to his beloved Tennessee. Upon arriving in Nashville, Roy was immediately admitted to St. Thomas Hospital, and the appendix was removed.
