New York City's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex closes its doors just a
year after opening

It was the day the music died at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex Sunday as the
museum closed its doors just a year after opening.
"There was no way I was going to miss this," said Lisa Karas, 51, who bundled up her family for the
trip from Hamburg, N.J. "I had to come see it."
The SoHo music-lovers' paradise fell victim to the economy and a down year
for city tourism.

Some visitors were shocked the museum, which featured artifacts ranging from
Elvis' jumpsuit to Bruce Springsteen's Chevy - as well as a special
exhibit on John Lennon's New
York years - didn't do better in a town with a rich rock heritage.
"I can't believe, especially in New York City, that it wouldn't go over big," said
Pete Paese, 54, of Garden City, L.I.

Others pointed to high ticket prices: $26.50, more than the $22 charged at
the original Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

"It was expensive," said Danielle Motz, 28, of Huntington, L.I. She decided it was worth coughing
up the cash because "I'm not going to make it to Cleveland anytime soon."
Mike Mattia, 51, of Staten Island, said he was drawn by the Lennon
exhibit. "It's just the economic times....," he said. "It's a shame. I wish more
people could see it."
"It was fabulous," Karas said. "I don't know how everybody who lived through
the '60s and '70s did not come here."

A spokeswoman for S2BN Entertainment, a partner in the venture, insisted the
museum "had a good year," but admitted it was tough sledding to draw crowds in a
recession.
"We would have liked for the exhibition to go on longer," said Caren Bell. "There is no doubt the economy
factored into our leaving."
